---------------------------------------------

six month since i draw the first piece of Azula from Avatar: the last airbender. (though i didn't draw any on june and the main part of this piece was finished last month, so it's technically a 4month-before-after Meme)

The newest piece accidently looks pretty similer to the first one, so i put them together to see how my drawing changes... the style do shifted a little bit, and I also become more familiar with photoshop... but did my drawing skill really improved? emmmm... really not sure :cries:

but anyway, I had so much different emotion expriences and technique or style tests through drawing her. can't believe i've been drawing fanarts of A:tLA for half year already. I thought I gived up drawing three years ago, but thanks for the show, it reburned my enthusiasm of drawing!

Let me see how long can I carry on this time.

The two have different styles to them so it's hard to say one is better then the other to be honest they are both good I prefer the pastille look of the left and the hue of the eyes however the work has an unfinished quality to the background as if it was left undone and the right has a much more finished appearance with a heavy allowance of light added in. The left is like Oil Pastille or maybe a water color? the Right is like Fine Art Drawing Markers both good mediums.

I got to say your eyes are so accurate and sensitive!
the frist one is a pure implusive draw inspired by a moment touch and the second one more focus on technique and details, it dose feel some emotion is missing.

If your referring to my drawings (I haven't posted many cause I need to scan them in and I've been really lazy :P )work I've been drawing sense I was 6 and I'm 27 now. I rarely finish my works thou. But I've always believed that the eyes where the most important part of a peace "the window of the soul" if you will, the more life you bring into an eye, the more depth, it really captures your attention. So I guess that's why I prefer the first one more because it's more raw flow as you said some emotion is missing. Achieving balance that's key that even some of the "best" Artist on here can lack. *points to quote*

But that's why I like pencil rather then digital mediums. I'm old fashioned.

eyes is the essicial part of an artist, but it sometimes out of order when staring at the same image for too long. it lost the sense to tell right and wrong any more, even step back.

what you said is ture, while the skills goes up, the emotion and implusive fade. it's very diffecult to "create" spirit movement or maintain emotion at peak all the time, espacially when people treat their art as a piece of image not a "living" object. I think that's why lots skilled art work lost emotional attraction. I'm really feared to become one of them, but it's need lots effort to aviod it. and it's something hard to control

I don't realy like digital mediums too, it makes work easier in terms of space and materials. so at least I'd like my work looks less digitally, and that's what I'm trying to work out.

Just remember art should be a reflection of you no matter the medium.
As to digital main reason I don't use it I don't have a tablet yet so I stick to old methods because a tablet is the only way to come close to my trusty sketch book and pencil :) .

I see "improvement" in realistic expression, but not in content, e.g. Azula in May is clearly "up to somethin'" but November's model is just a pretty girl.

I think your drawing has changed, but just a little. Your strokes look more smooth in the second picture where they are bolder in the first. You also look like you have a bit more 'volume' to the body in the second, more....3D? Not sure what word I'm looking for, but I guess that's the sleep deprived moments of myself.

However, this doesn't mean that either picture is better. I can see how much your techique has improved greatly in photoshop. The color and texture of the hair, the glow of the flower, the shading of the skin, its much more defined and detailed.

You have definitely improved, and I hope to do the same as well in photoshop. I greatly adore seeing these, they really show how an artist can improve, even within a 6 month time period.

I think you're totally right, the frist one delivers emotion while the second one more focus on techniques. I really wish i could be as implusive and high emotional as I just finished show, cus i believe it's the the soul of a picture. but it's just impossible to keep one emotion at peak all the time. what a shame...
